The State of Oklahoma is Well Known
for Incarcerating More Women per Capita
Than Any Other State in America.

This is a Story of a Survivor of the Oklahoma system.

Beginning with her third stay in a mental institution, and then doing a flash back to the previous occurrences in her life, Daughter of my People tells the story of an unfortunate young woman in a backward system who maintained the desire to persevere, despite the odds against her.

This memoir is both sad and funny, bittersweet and hilarious. It is a story about an unlikable young woman who grows up to be undesirable, and yet who confirms that maintaining one's own value in oneself, despite what everyone else thinks, is the way to survive and thrive.

In The Author's Own Words ...

"Daughter of my People is about the life of a girl from southern Oklahoma who seems to have a lot of bad luck, but never relinquishes her sovereignty as an individual.

She refuses to surrender her power to help determine her own fate, despite the interference of other people who do not want her to get "too far above her raising."

This girl comes from a broken home, a severely dysfunctional family and, like Murphy's law, anything that can go wrong in her life, will go wrong.

Despite it all, she rises above her misfortunes and survives and thrives." -- Brenda Partington
